Imagine you need to deliver aid after a flood, but you don’t know where the villages are or where the roads are. In many parts of the world, even in the 21st century, reliable spatial data is lacking. These “blank spots” on the map prevent effective humanitarian aid, which is crucial for saving lives. The Missing Maps project helps map vulnerable areas using satellite imagery and volunteers. At the workshop you will find out why maps are missing, how exactly mapping is done and how you can get involved. You will also try your hand at mapping buildings in Africa.
